National Storytelling Week

We have been having a fantastic time celebrating National Storytelling Week across school this week.

Year 2 have been enjoying the story The Ugly Duckling. As a class, they created a story map to outline the text and children then used this to support them in retelling and sharing the story to others.

Year 3 have thoroughly enjoyed reading Aesop’s fable, ‘The Town Mouse and the Country Mouse’. They have been busy practising learning it off by heart, so that they can orally retell the story without prompts as it would have been originally shared.

In Year 5, children joined in with a virtual event alongside author and poet Steven Camden. They learnt the important skill of world-building, which is an important component used to create and tell stories. Children were given the chance to create a brand-new, fictional world alongside Steven. Teachers were so pleased with all of the imaginative, interesting ideas that children came up with.

We hope you have had lots of fun sharing stories at home as well. If you have any photos that you would like to share with us, then please email them into the school office.
