Year 5 have been busy responding to poetry this week. The children have been identifying the different poetic devices that can be found in the poem, ‘The Ocean’s Blanket’ by Carol Ann Duffy. They probed the poem to find examples of devices such as rhyme and repetition and even counted the syllables within each line. An exciting discussion then ensued as the children discussed the parts of the poem that they liked and the parts that especially caught their attention. The children made lots of links and connections between their own lives and the ideas discussed in the poem as well and were excited to share lots of their thoughts and opinions. Well done Year 5!
