DT Week at Woodston

If you were an engineer, what would you do?

This week, Woodston Primary School took part in a National Design & Technology competition “If you were an engineer, what would you do?”

The competition invites pupils in both primary and secondary schools to imagine: if they were an engineer, what problem would they most like to solve? The main aim of the competition is to raise awareness of the importance of engineers and engineering and develop creative problem-solving skills in pupils between the ages of 3-19.

The children engaged with real-life engineers, exploring what engineers do. In each year group, the children recognised a world or local problem and tried to innovate a solution to solve it. The children had to draw and annotate their solution and then, write a letter to an engineer, explaining why their solution should be chosen to win.

As our fabulous finish, we had an engineer coming to our school, sharing the knowledge and experience in engineering and answering lots of questions.

I am certain that the children will remember this experience forever! They had lots of fun completing the competition and impressed all the teachers with their solutions, drawing skills, knowledge and imagination.
