Woodston Heads to Cambridge University!!

Year 4 and 5 STEM Festival

On Tuesday 19th March, 20 children from Year 4 and 5 visited the University of Cambridge. After arriving at the University campus and having a tasty biscuit, we walked to the Sports Hall where our sessions began.

We attended the following workshops which were part of the University of Cambridge Schools Festival:

  • Thinking Mathematically: Members from the NRICH team invited students to work together on some of their favourite mathematical problems.
  • Can you blow up the Sun, and other dastardly space questions:  Children considered the questions: What happens if you throw someone into a black hole? Could you crash the Moon into the Earth? Everything you ever wanted to know about space (but we’re so very afraid to ask) awaits.

It was wonderful to see the enjoyment and engagement the children demonstrated in their maths and science learning. The children shared the following comments:

"I liked the space session because we learnt about what would happen in the future and we saw what black holes actually are." Alfie

"The space session was enjoyable because the Professor that was teaching us was really funny." Mia
