Phonics

We use Little Wandle  as the main resource and structure to teach phonics in EYFS & KS1.   Based on regular assessments, children are taught in whole class groups, led by teachers. The children complete a reading carousel three times a week led by teachers and TAs.  Literacy and English planning takes into account the phonic knowledge of the children. Year 1 & 2 children are also introduced to the relevant Spelling, Punctuation & Grammar (SPAG) requirements of the National Curriculum as part of their phonics and English work

The resources on the link above will help you support your child with saying their sounds and writing their letters. There are also some useful videos so you can see how they are taught at school and feel confident about supporting their reading at home. Find our full Reception and Year 1 teaching programme overview here to see what your child will learn and when.
