Welcome to the Summer Term. We are delighted to have all the children back in school this term. We are continuing to keeping your children Covid safe through extra hand washing, use of hand gel, and lots of reminders to leave a little space between their friends. We have lots of exciting things for the children to continue learning in their final term in Reception and we are starting with a dressing up day with a theme of ‘Under the Sea’. In Literacy we will be continuing with two Power of Reading books, which both relate to under the sea. We will be finding out about water-dwelling animals and all the different things you can do with a bucket! In Maths, we are continuing to work on our number bonds alongside exploring shapes we can see around us. You could look for shapes on your way to school – which 2D and 3D ones can you find? We will be moving on in addition and subtraction to look at concepts such as doubling, halving and sharing, using lots of practical hands-on resources and games. In Phonics, we are continuing to learn some new sounds, including diagraphs and trigraphs and we will be practising using the ones we know to help us with our reading and writing. This term we are focussing on writing labels and captions for pictures and objects. In Expressive Art & Design, we are going to be using our hands to create models in a variety of media, including clay. This links in to our Understanding of the World around us, in which we are going to be exploring different properties of materials and choosing the best material for different purposes. We are also going to be finding out about the sea and the animals that live in it. We are practising being good citizens too this term by exploring the local environment, checking for litter and talking about how to look after wildlife. To help us develop our social skills and our PSHE knowledge we are going to be talking about different celebrations, people who help us and how to keep ourselves healthy, happy and safe. We hope that they have you have lots of fun learning about all these different things with us. and we can’t wait to teach them. Please continue to support your child by talking with them regularly about what they have been doing in school, encouraging them to speak in full sentences. We will be putting lots of things on Tapestry. Also, please don’t forget we expect that children will share a book 5 times a week at home and that this will be recorded in their Reading Diary.
We can’t wait to see the children’s development this term, as they finish their Reception year and get ready to start in Year 1 in September.
